Earth Hero July 2021 Haul

2021 has been the year of exploring adjusting my routine, trying new products and implementing new habits. Including experimenting with more environmentally-friendly household products! I just updated by last post in which I recommended certain eco-friendly adjustments with my thoughts now that I’ve been using (or not using) each for almost 6+ months. And now I wanted to share a few more of my simple household adjustments and products that I just purchased from Earth Hero! A focus of mine lately has been on reusing items and reducing the waste in our home, because although the largest environmental impact will come from large companies and corporations, I believe we can do what we can by limiting the amount of trash that we through into the landfill. A big factor in this mindset shift was a John Oliver special on plastics and how challenging it actually is. to recycle

Conditioner Bar

I’ve wanted to try shampoo and conditioner bars for awhile and I just ran out of my conditioner, so figured now is the perfect time! This brand is also sold on Target’s website so it’s easily accessible and I’ve ready great reviews about this particular conditioner bar so I’m excited to try it! It’s supposed to last even longer than the typical liquid conditioner and the packaging eliminates the typical plastic bottle.

LastSwab + bamboo instead of cotton swabs

I already own and use the original Last Swab and love it - it’s easy to clean, too! However, I sometimes get mascara on my eyelids and still used a cotton swab to wipe it off, however I just purchased the Last Swab for beauty and think it will be the perfect solution! I also purchased bamboo cotton swabs for guests and to try as well.

Bamboo toothbrushes

I have been using bamboo toothbrushes for about seven months now and while there was an adjustment because it’s a bit bulkier than my previous plastic brushes, it’s has been an easy switch overall. This is a simple adjustment and bamboo will biodegrade, while plastic will not.

Powder laundry detergent

This is my second environmentally-friendly laundry detergent I’m trying. While the first worked great on towels and regular clothing, it did not work well in our loads with active wear. Therefore, I’m trying this new-to-me detergent and it’s actually a powder instead of liquid or tablets.

Organic dish cloths

We needed a few new dish cloths and I wanted to support a business that prioritizes environmentally-friendly materials and ethical practices. These also had good reviews. I’ve used these once so far and they worked well to scrub my glass pan.

Reusable travel straw

Beware, this was an investment (but I’ve since seen reusable travel straws at Target for about $5), however it so cute and I decided to treat myself. I love the coral case, included cleaning utensil and colorful straw! It folds up incredibly easy, so far is easy to clean and is easy to use. This is the most exciting purchase in this haul to me! It’s much smaller than I thought, but I love that - now I’m just nervous I’ll lose it or leave it at a restaruant! One caveat, while it includes a chain, it doesn’t include a keychain ring to actually clip onto a bag which is a bit disapointing.

That’s all that I can think of right now, but I enjoy following several accounts on Instagram to continually learn more and more eco-friendly changes in my everyday life. Thank you for learning alongside me!
