My 2019 Knitting Journey
2019 was a groundbreaking year in my knitting journey! I learned so many new aspects of the craft of knitting as well as areas of the knitting community. I can’t wait to try new techniques and new fibers in 2020. There’s still so much to learn! 2019 included working with my first indie-dyed yarn, first sweater (huge learning curve on my sweater journey from the start to the end of the year for me!), understanding yarn weight, nailing down a direction for my business that I’m passionate about, picking scarves back up and starting an in stock section of my shop. I love this hobby of mine and can’t wait to continue discovering all the new and developing facets within it!

My personal knitting journey:

Worked with my first indie-dyed yarn
Participated in my first ever knit-a-long
Completed my first blanket(s)!
Tried out so many new stitches!
*This isn’t an entire compilation of my knits because there’s an awesome website called Ravelry that is a great tool for makers to log their projects (and a resource to find many patterns). If you’re interested in more details, check you my Ravelry page here.
Without further ado, here’s a look back:
The Little Hearts Beanie by Knifty Knittings is a pattern I had my eye on for awhile and customers loved it! It quickly became one of my most popular beanie styles of the season.
At the beginning of 2019, I knit my very first sweater. It was a kit from We Are Knitters. This sweater was my also first time knitting with 100% wool. It turned out smaller than it was supposed to be; it was basically cropped (my gauge had to have been too tight, even though I switched!) At the end of 2019, I went back and added length to the sweater and am now MUCH happier with it.
I can’t say enough good things about this blanket! I used the daisy stitch (hence the name) and it’s a perfect accessory for as throw for your living room. I designed it myself for a family member and I LOVE this stitch and am so proud of the blanket overall.
I knit the Colorblock Cardi over the summer - it was a big, chunky and oversized knit. I second-guessed myself and knit a larger size which I think now is a little too oversized, but it was a fast knit which is what I was looking for at the time. It’s a pretty heavy and WARM cardigan so I haven’t worn it much, but I LOVE the pockets and overall it’s cute. It’s helped me to realize I need to be more confident in my sizing and not be scared of knitting the size that would actually fit my body.
I knit this scarf for my grandma and it was a huge one for me because this is a gorgeous pattern I’ve admired since it was released, plus I used indie-dyed yarn from Handmade Home Fibers. I combined solid yellow with the colorful shaved ice color way to create a gradient effect that I love!
The Bears didn’t perform so well this season but I knitted a collection inspired by the team’s colors. This taught me about designing my own hats and narrowing down what to include in a collection. I love trying out new designs, but there came a point I had to stop myself and repeat some designs so I had multiples in my inventory!
In 2019, I made multiple Braided Cable Beanies and Big Braid Beanies by PremKnits. The Braided Cable Beanie was the first beanie I ever admired and thought it was too difficult for me to accomplish, but I did it! After experimenting with different yarn weights, I feel like I gained a solid understanding of the pattern! For me, I thought I would love the Big Braid Beanie, but it fell a little flat once I actually put it on, maybe it needs a litter more experimentation. But I’m so happy I finally made these designs that I’ve admired for so long!
The Daffodil Collection was my first coordinating collection of hats, scarves and headbands. I chose designs that I considered to be feminine and cute to include in this array of winter accessories.
My FAVORITE knit of the entire year. This was my first time ever participating in a Knit-A-Long and it won't be my last that’s for sure. This yarn is handspan by women in India and has lace and daisies interwoven into it. This entire cardigan is absolutely gorgeous plus it’s wool and I never got too hot wearing it! It makes me smile and brings me joy every time I wear it and it is truly one-of-a-kind!
